In Between 1 combines a graphite drawing with handcut pattern to create a powerful artwork that pays homage to the artist's hand. Beginning with the drawing, days were devoted to rendering the portrait of the young woman. Next came the cutting. Varying patterns were cut into the drawing using a precision knife and completed entirely by hand. It too represents weeks of carefully executed work. The result is a portrait that both obscures and heightens the figure beneath.

Materials:

Rice paper, graphite, charcoal. All materials used in this artwork are archival.

Framing:

This artwork comes in a custom maple frame created specifically for this artwork. A completely unique piece, I worked with local carpenters to design the frame. The drawing hangs between two pieces of plexiglass, creating the illusion that the art is floating in midair. Brass inserts prevent the plexiglass from slipping. Hanging rings come already attached to the back of the frame. All you have to do is find a place on your wall for this one-of-a-kind artwork.
